Breakthrough research, robust program & successful outcome
For over ten years, Cockpit Vista founder Wing Commander K Dinesh has pioneered research in Aviation & Psychology in quest of finding more effective methods to address Fear of Flying (FoF) and Flight Anxiety (FA). We have researched and identified 250 and more reasons for Fear of flying which are specific to aviation. Every FA passenger suffers one or more of these anxieties. Then, there are many comming from Generalised Anxiety.
The first step to Flight anxiety removal is to Speak to Wing Commander K Dinesh, who is the domain expert and conducts the course himself. The initial consultation, done over a telecall lasting an hour (audio / Audio video), helps Wing Commander to identify your specific concerns and suggest a tailor made program for you. Sometimes, you may have a clinical condition that requires attention before you take the Cockpit Vista program. The significance of the Initial consultation is emphasised
Each person is unique in his reasons for anxiety and their tolerance. FA is complex - it often follows from aviation specific stressors like a traumatic event on a flight and / or a non aviation stressors like underlying clinical reasons, preexisting general Anxiety and life experiences. Just like doctor does not consult patients in groups, we believe that flight Anxiety cannot be addressed effectively in groups - small or big. Hence our FA removal courses are always private and done "one on one".
Flight Anxiety is result of strange sounds, motion, vibration and sensation arising from the aeroplane. It grows from mistrust or misinformation about how pilots work in cockpit. We believe that FA requires "Exposure Therapy" and cannot be addressed in classroom setting. Our course is conducted in the cockpit Simulator with the guest in the copilot seat for the entire duration. We convert you into virtual pilot - this is the gamechanger in FA therapy and produces lasting results.
Strange but true, FA or FoF is an issue with the learned, educated, the rich and the jet setters. Most of the clients of Cockpit Vista are professionals in high positions or business leaders who can afford to hire a jet but unable to fly!! They are essentially those who control ecosystems but are faced with lack of control while on flight. Cockpit Vista gives them the tools to virtually take over control while seated as a passenger.
Understandably, given their social profile, FA clients require utmost privacy and confidentially while taking the course. Also they do not want to be seen at airports and on board flight with a course group. Cockpit Vista sessions ae held in private location away from being noticed. Also, the real flight is conducted in an equally personalised manner
A passenger's anxiety can be related to any field of aviation - pilot, Flight Attendants, ATC, Maintenance, airside operations, ground handling, aviation security and twenty more such areas aviation. Human Psychology and human behaviour add to the complexity. Clients end up with hundreds of questions which must be answered before their trust on aviation is reinforced. To deliver the course effectively, we must have the entire range of specialists from aviation to conduct the course, which is neither practical not cost effective. Cockpit Vista pioneered the concept of Fear of Fying Domain Expert and remains unique till date - we determined that flight anxiety removal begins with trust on the instructor , especially your willingness to board the plane with him after the simulator session. It is impossible for a client to win trust of multiple instructors in a one day program, therefore the entire course must be conducted by a single instructor, the instructor need to be a single point of contact with the unique qualification of exposure to all the fields. Cockpit Vista founder Wing Commander K Dinesh is infact an Air Force Examiner with experience and exposure to all facets of aviation including aviation Psychology. He is one of the few specialist worldwide who himself conducts the entire course for each client at Cockpit Vista and delivers the right balance and wins the trust of client which is paramount in FA redressal.
Cockpit Vista study indicate that efficacy of flight Anxiety courses is best in an eye to eye contact scenario. The trust on the instructor is key to success of the course. Online material or downloadable courses are not a substitute for a good interaction and trust building exercise in an eye to eye program. For that reason we advocate a personal contact program, be it at the Cockpit Vista site or at client's location
Our online course retains all benefits of the onsite course and is a good substitute when a client cannot reach the onsite course, especially those who are overseas. An eye to eye zoom session with our founder from his cockpit makes the session meaningful and as beneficial as the onsite course.
We emphasise the role of enabler!! Most courses restrict accompanying guest for commercial reasons. For a scientific reason, we at Cockpit Vista not only allow a partner to join an anxious passenger for the entire session, but encourage you to come with a trusted partner with whom you would fly most often. This person could be your spouse, business partner or a close friend - but he must be a happy flyer who wants to be a contributor to your success story. It is our researched outcome that a flight anxious passenger's intake at the simulator is anything from 30 to 60 percent while the partner / support person has a thorough understanding of the session . The happy flyer gathers all the tools and techniques from us and acts as all time instructor and mentor on flights that you may take with the partner for business or leisure after the course. A buddy configuration (Enabler) enhances your confidence and helps you out of the anxiety.
Flight Anxiety removal requires regular mentoring. Success rates in anxiety removal programs are determined by the number of flights a passenger continues to fly month after month after the course. Anxiety levels can rise after news of aviation incidents anywhere in the world. Anxiety redressal is therefore an ongoing process for turning a fearful flyer into a happy flyer. Regular mentoring is the solution. Given our business model, clients keep in touch with our founder on regular basis. Cockpit Vista is unique in providing continued support including personal advice and appropriate feed of reading material, video links that enhance confidence in aviation. Having a mentor and coach is not only a privilege for the client but a necessity in programs to control Aviation related Anxiety.
Once again we researched and saw no major advantage of discussing Psychology as a standalone subject to Flight Anxious passengers. Instead in a more intuitive methodology we combined a more advanced subject of aviation psychological embedded within the para-technical session. Our delivery at the course sessions are therefore more impactful as it covers each module or subject from two perspective - the psychological and technical, both at the same time. The integrated approach to course delivery is most effective in fighting fight anxiety
Well, what length of session is good enough for a Fear of Flying course? We realised that FA courses are about unlearning and relearning aviation. Aeroplanes and aviation operation is a complex subject. It takes a reasonably long explanation by the instructor for a FA client to understand and accept the fact. We found that 15 hours of interaction that we provide in a session plus the flight configuration is just about enough. We don't agree that a four hour session can do justice to the cause. We emphasize that the required course duration is an important consideration while picking up program for Fear of Flying removal.
Successful outcome of fearful flyer turned happy flyer milestones, inspires many more to follow! In yet another unique system, we put out the screenshot of your instant reactions on the website as testimonial. There can't be a more genuine testimonial to motivate those who need help
Most fearful flyers and not sure of the path to success after the course.. To give a clear picture, we encourage our course participants to share their full story with the community - how it all began and their journey in search of remedies and the milestones since they restarted flying. Many of them agree to share full details and be part of the Cockpit Vista campaign "Everyone will fly". Most often the story is supported with digital proof as in whatsapp chat, email and insta post. In furtherance to our continued support to the community of Fearful flyers, we have shared these detailed testimonial stories as private pages of our website. You will need to create an account to access these pages. We encourage our guests to open an account and benefit from the stories of our past clients.
Lastly, the Fear of Flying courses typically don't come cheap as it requires simulators, aviation resources, real estate and more importantly requires specialists to deliver the program. An accompanied real flight needs more resources and time. Typically, a private courses for Fear of Flying in United Kingdom with cost more than $4225 (INR 3.4 lakhs). Add the cost of travel and stay, a private course becomes prohibitively expensive, except for the super rich. Cockpit Vista, in line with it's mission "Everyone will fly", delivers a more effective course content at affordable cost - adding value for money. Our unique proposal can bring the course to you on a no cost basis. We are glad to see overseas customer travelling all the way to us for the private one on one course.
